In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels fall before,
The ox and ass and camel which adore.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

I just listened to this beautiful hymn and it was just what I needed this morning. I'm so nervous about bringing Joe home…it calmed me.

Such a beautiful hymn. I sang for many years with a Women's Ensemble, singing acapella at church and every year at the Maymont Victorian Christmas. We always included "In the Bleak Midwinter". Merry Christmas to you and Blessings throughout the new year!

Dear sheperd Thistle, you were in the poor stable filled with heavenly light to see hte hidden salvator. You brought him a lamb, and he healed the lamb.
Merry Christmas, thank you for this wonderful poem and photo,

I watched (and listened) to that choir on YouTube earlier tonight and it just knocked me out. My emotions seem to be about a hairsbreadth from the surface all the time lately…whew.
A very happy Christmas to you and yours, Sandra! I'm still thinking about my "one word" for 2014. I'm like you, though…better with phrases! 😉
