Tidbit Tuesday – Coffee Cubes

by Sandra Bennett

~ coffee cubes in the making ~
Do you ever have left over coffee? If you’re like me, you hate throwing money down the drain or in the trash, so don’t! These cute little ice cube trays were purchased at the end of the season last year; I think for about twenty-five or fifty cents each. When Dave and I have left over coffee in the mornings, I fill up the ice cube trays, freeze them and then serve with iced coffee later in the week. Like today. It’s in the 80’s and hot, hot hot! As they thaw, they don’t dilute my coffee drink but add to the flavor and when company comes, it’s a nicely added touch that says “special”.
Another tidbit…you can, of course, go through a lot of gyrations to make your iced coffee but there’s no need. For a twelve cup pot of coffee, add a pint of your favorite flavored cream…instant flavored iced coffee and in the flavor you enjoy!

I make coffee ice cubes…..sadly they are not little heart shapes. Instead of watching regular ice melt in a cold coffee, I smile while the coffee cubes just make it better!

As has been said, again and again, what a clever idea and one that I will use – coffee is expensive and it is wasteful to toss it daily when making a fresh pot! Thank you!

I LOVE THIS IDEA! Although the sun has been hiding and so the temperatures are not as high as usual I know the heat is coming soon. I love my coffee in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon but when it is so hot and humid I usually have an ice tea. Now I will make iced coffee and if it has to sit it won't get watered down by the ice.

I never thought about the silicone trays! I tried regular ice cube trays once and the coffee cubes didn't want to release! Good idea!

I love this idea! I don't drink coffee and neither does hubby. I don't even have any in the house and wouldn't know how to make it if I did! But our church serves coffee at both of our morning services and it seems they are always dumping a bunch out after the second service. I am going to suggest this to the hospitality committee. Perfect for summer sipping!
    Thanks, Sandra!

ooh, I love your coffee ice cube idea! It is getting hot enough here that iced tea is now the main drink of the day, but iced coffee is always welcome! I wonder if you could mix a little chocolate syrup in the ice cubes to make iced mochas? Yum!

Such a neat idea!! This reminds me of when my 5 y/o great-granddaughter is with me; she'll wake up and say "Are we having coffee now?" Of course, I dilute hers with many ice cubes. This will be perfect for her!! 🙂

It is 107 right now so I am so hot and I went ahead and had my coffee. I need to do this so easy and I won't sweat when I am drinking it.

    Hello Sandra and Dave:
What an excellent idea and one which, if you do not mind, as we are fairly sure you will not, we shall copy. Iced coffee is one of our favourite summer drinks and with a coffee 'heart' added it will surely transport it to another plane.

33C [90F] here tomorrow so very much the same!!
