~ Happy Valentine’s now and always ~

“the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” ~ Jeremiah 31:3 ~

“I thought once how Theocritus had sung
Of the sweet years, the dear and wished-for years,
Who each one in a gracious hand appears
To bear a gift for mortals, old or young:
And, as I mused it in his antique tongue,
I saw, in gradual vision through my tears,
The sweet, sad years, the melancholy years,
Those of my own life, who by turns had flung
A shadow across me. Straightway I was ‘ware,
So sweeping, how a mystic Shape did move
Behind me, and drew me backward by the hair;
And a voice said in mastery, while I strove,-
“Guess now who holds thee?”- “Death,” I said. But, there,
The silver answer rang,- “Not Death, but Love.”
~ Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning ~

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but
in deed and in truth.” ~ I John 3:18 ~

“Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.” ~ St. Augustine ~

“I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.”  ~ Alfred, Lord Tennyson ~

“Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle.” ~ Amy Bloom ~

“The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” ~ Allan K. Chalmers ~

“Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.” ~ Antoine De Saint-Exupery ~

“Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.”
~ I Corinthians 13:4-8 ~

“I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.” ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning ~

“Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” ~ Dale Evans ~

“Love comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” ~ I Timothy 1:5 ~

Until next time

    Love the Dale Evans quote – as always your posts are thought and smile provoking – without God, the source of true love we cannot know love.

    Beatiful quotes, as always. I have always loved Antoine De Saint-Exupery's work. I wrote this quote of his on slips of paper and pinned them to handmade candles for my wedding. I probably still have one of those somewhere…I'll have to hunt for it!

    The quote by Amy Bloom is most true, don't you think?

    How would we ever know love if we didn't know God? Thanks for the verses.
