Sabbath Keeping ~ Grief

by Sandra Bennett
Sabbath Keeping· TCF

6 Aug
“Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of His saints.”
~ Psalm 116:15 ~
“Grief is not a disorder, a disease or a sign of weakness.
It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity,
the price you pay for love.
The only cure for grief is to grieve.”
~ Earl Grollman ~
“The death of a beloved is an amputation.”
~ C. S. Lewis ~
“Those who have suffered
understand suffering and
therefore extend their hand.”
~ Patti Smith ~
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
~ Fred Rogers ~
“Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.” ~ Leo Tolstoy ~
“We rejoice in spite of our grief,
not in place of it.”
~ Woodrow Kroll ~
“Deep grief sometimes is almost like a specific location, a coordinate on a map of time. When you are standing in that forest of sorrow, you cannot imagine that you could ever find your way to a better place. But if someone can assure you that they themselves have stood in that same place, and now have moved on, sometimes this will bring hope.” ~  Elizabeth Gilbert ~
“She was no longer wrestling with the grief, but could sit down with it as a lasting companion and make it a sharer in her thoughts.” ~ George Eliot ~
“Joy is best sown in broken ground.”
~ Jack Wellman ~
“The cross is a one time, visual representation, of God’s grief over sin.”
“Blessed are they that mourn
for they shall be comforted.”
~ Matthew 5:4 ~
Please continue to pray for Max‘s family and friends as we journey through the shadow lands ~

These wise quotes are ones we hope we'll never need. When grief from the loss of beloved pets is so completely engulfing, the thought of loss of a loved one, for those who haven't yet, is something we're not brave enough to face before it's needed. But it is only the help that those who have walked this road before us that really helps when we face it too, as at least two of your quotes speak to.

I imagine, Sandra, that this fresh grief may bring back the pain of older griefs to you. I'm praying for you and for all those who miss your dear friend.

Dewena, after Dave's cancer was diagnosed, he would tell me, "No matter how ready or prepared one is for death, it's always a complete surprise when it occurs." He was right and while grief lessens, it never diminishes. How can that be?

Sherry, since Dave's death I have a couple of sayings, one is, "Death comes to us or for us, no one will escape." For those who are ready to spend eternity in Heaven, it's welcome but as Daddy likes to say, "I'm ready to go but I'm not homesick."

Grief is the price God paid as well. Horrible to consider, isn't it?

Oh, Grief!!!! It can be crippling sometimes—even when we KNOW that there is a place beyond the Great Divide where we will be reunited with those believers that have gone before us.

I do believe it is the price we pay for love. Blessings to you and I hope you have a wonderful week. xo Diana
