Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

by Sandra Bennett

WOW! Patrice has hit 100 Chats! For close to two years of Tuesdays on Everyday Rurality, she’s come up with five questions; here are today’s questions:

1. What’s the best advice anyone ever gave you? – Some of the best advice my parent’s gave me was, “You’ll learn the hard way or the easy way but you will learn.” They are still right although time and age have taught me it’s far, far better to learn the easy way -LOL-.

2. Do you have houseplants? – Yes, a fair number because people keep giving them to me and I keep giving them away. It’s a never-ending cycle.

3. Do mosquitoes bother you or leave you alone? – We don’t have mosquitoes because we have barn swallows and bats…hurrah! When I re-locate, I’ll put up purple martin houses, perhaps bat houses and have another something I’m going to do…will blog about it later.

4. What’s your favorite charity? – Salvation Army…they keep expenses, salaries, perks, benefits low so they can focus on their clientele. While it’s true in 2003, they were given $1.5B by Mrs. Kroc (McDonalds Corp founder widow), that money is to be used solely for new buildings in poor areas.

5. Do you like mint? – Do peppermint patties count?

Blessings ~ commitment ~ consistency ~ barn swallows, ~ bats ~ Mrs. Kroc ~

Karen, She was an amazing woman.

LindaSue, I'm glad you shared, thanks! It's always good learning more about folks I care about.

Debby, loved reading more about you, thanks!

Buttons, I'm pretty sure peppermint patties count as a veg…almost positive!

    Donna, those are good charities.

Sue, I just tried to find your blog and can't…what's going on?

Mags, probably similar to what my Dad says…take them all to the market.

    Patrice, oh yeah!

Love chats on the porch! My dad gave us very trenchant advice on pets, that I couldn't possibly repeat to an animal-lover like you, but I think we will be getting a goldfish over the summer, so hopefully there won't be any emergencies….

Salvation Army is one of my favorite charities too, along with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Paws With A Cause.

As much as I wanted to keep my children from pain they seldom listen and have to learn it themselves. I have a few houseplants but there was a time before we had children when I had about 200 plants in our home. We don't have mosquitoes here but even back in Illinois years ago they never cared for me 🙂 I haven't had a peppermint patty in a long time. Have a nice 4th of July.

Like mint in all sorts of goodies – a mojito is right tasty too!
    I'm a Samaritan's Purse charity gal
though the Army does incredible work.
Two house plants and drawing the line there! Limited counter space and windows – so outdoors must be my garden
Best advice – read your bible every day – and trust in it. From my darling Skip.
I'm the original skeeter magnet – have every possible defense against 'em but they luv me!
I know you didn't ask ME these questions but I'm chatty this morning so I shared ;))
