Sabbath Keeping – Change

“For I, the Lord, do not change…” ~ Malachi 3:6 ~

“Everybody thinks of changing humanity and nobody thinks of changing himself.” ~ Leo Tolstoy ~

“…just as you do not analyze the words of someone you love, but accept them as they are said to you, accept the Word of Scripture and ponder it in your heart, as Mary did. That is all. That is meditation.”      and

“Real silence, real stillness, really holding one’s tongue comes only as the sober consequence of spiritual stillness.”  ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer ~

“Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth.” ~ Archimedes ~

“I went to meetings in a awful frame of mind, and endeavored to be inwardly acquainted with the language of the true Shepherd. One day, being under a strong exercise of spirit, I stood up and said some words in a meeting; but not keeping close to the Divine opening, I said more than was required of me. Being soon sensible of my error, I was afflicted in mind some weeks, without any light or comfort, even to that degree that I could not take satisfaction in anything. I remembered God, and was troubled, and in the depth of my distress He had pity upon me, and sent the Comforter. I then felt forgiveness for my offence; my mind became calm and quiet, and I was truly thankful to my Redeemer for his mercies. About six weeks after this, feeling the spring of Divine love opened, and a concern to speak, I said a few words in a meeting, in which I found peace. Being thus humbled and disciplined under the cross, my understanding became more strengthened to distinguish the pure spirit which inwardly moves upon the heart, and which taught me to wait in silence sometimes many weeks together, until I felt that rise which prepares the creature to stand like a trumpet, through which the Lord speaks to his flock.” ~ John Woolman ~

“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” ~ N. V. Peale ~

“If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.” ~ Gail Sheehy ~

“Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.” ~ John Green ~

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I am changing myself.” ~ Rumi ~

“Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams than to your comfort zone.” ~ Billy Cox ~

“Therefore, dear Sir, love your solitude and try to sing out with the pain it causes you. For those whoa re near you are far away…and this shows that the space around you is beginning to grow vast…be happy about your growth, in which of course you can’t take anyone with you, and be gentle with those who stay behind; be confident and calm in front of them and don’t torment them with your doubts and don’t frighten them with you faith or joy, which they wouldn’t be able to comprehend. Seek out some simple and true feeling of what you have in common with them, which doesn’t necessarily have to alter when you yourself change again and again; when you see them, love life in a form that is not your own and be indulgent toward those who are growing old, who are afraid of the aloneness that you trust…and don’t expect any understanding; but believe in a love that is being stored up for you like an inheritance, and have faith that in this love there is a strength and a blessing so large that you can travel as far as you wish without having to step outside it.” ~ Rainer Marie Rilke ~

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless it is faced.” ~ James Baldwin ~

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” ~ Anne Frank ~

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” ~ Henry Ford ~

“You can’t step in the same river twice.” ~ Heraclitus ~

“We have this hope (Jesus) as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…”     ~ Hebrews 6:19 ~

Hi. I am evacuated from the Camp Fire. Our home survived. We are grateful. We are to go home soon. Most of my friends lost all. Please pray for Paradise and Magalia.

Dear Sheryl – I cannot begin to imagine the horror that’s has touched so many and am glad you are, hopefully, returned home by now. Paradise was on my prayer list, now, so is Magalia.

Gracious, what a basketful of wise and thought-provoking quotes you’ve given us, each one worthy of thought and study. Your theme is so current with my thoughts lately, in my case studying on redeeming the time, identifying not just how I want to spend time left to me but what I want to let into my mind. What is superfluous but time consuming? Coming to terms with not being able to do everything but determined to take pleasure in what I can do at this stage of my life. Slowing down but not shutting down, in fact I feel excited with possibilities of deeper contentment.

A blessed Thanksgiving to you, dear Sandra,

Dewena, you’ve said so much of what’s been on my mind and heart lately. Dave and I didn’t have children and my identity is now…gone. No longer a wife, nor a shepherd; what am I to do with my life, my remaining time? I simply do not know. Let’s pray for each other.

Thank you for sharing the wisdom contained in these sayings. Change . . . . we dread it and yet it is necessary. Thankful that our Lord does not change. He is our anchor. Happy Thanksgiving sweet lady!

Outside of God, change is the only constant, eh Robbin? Happy Thanksgiving; I hope it was pleasant.
