Don’t Waste Today

by Sandra Bennett
TCF

16 Jan
Why do we waste today by worrying about tomorrow?
Tomorrow never comes;
it’s always and forever…simply today.

“Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind. … Hear the music of voices, the song of the bird, the mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you would be stricken deaf tomorrow. Touch each object as if tomorrow your tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of the flowers, taste with relish each morsel, as if tomorrow you could never smell and taste again. Make the most of every sense; glory in all the facets of pleasure and beauty which the world reveals to you.” ~ Helen Keller ~

~ Sam P. Spade, Secret Agent ~
“Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities
no doubt have crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely
and with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with
your old nonsense.
This day is all that is
good and fair.
It is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on yesterdays.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

“We should live each day with a gentleness, a vigor, and a keeness of appreciation which are often lost when time stretches before us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to
come.” ~ Helen Keller ~

Spend it wisely,
time is money.

“If everything is under control, you’re going too slow.” ~ Mario Andretti ~

“No pressure,
no diamonds.”
~ Mary Case ~

~ my paca nation ~

“Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

“The largest living land mammal is the absent mind.”
~ Capt Beefheart ~

~ Abigail, my heartbeat ~

“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of those.” ~ George Washington Carver ~

“The beginning is always today.”
~ Mary Shelley ~
~ play like you mean it ~

“A very small percentage of the people in this world will actually experience and live today. So many people will be stuck on another day, another time that traumatized them and caused them to spiritually stutter so they miss out on this day.” ~ Steve Maraboli ~

Once the question of why we’re here has been settled, we can focus on while we’re here. Today, each of us is one step closer to death. Make today count, live like you meant it knowing God’s blessings surround you.

    Oh I wish I had taken seriously the admonitions of the older people to enjoy the days at hand because they will fly away more quickly than I could ever anticipate ( or believe ) when I was young.The old adage about youth being wasted on the young is so true. But only the young lack the vision and experience to know this, thus giving them the wisdom in their old age to acknowledge it. 🙂

    The George Washington Carver quote is my favorite.

    Okay, your post settles it. I'm walking past my dirty house and going to the lake to take in the day.

    Best to you.

    the longer Emerson quote has now been printed off and about to go on my refrigerator door – I live too often in the land of shoulda, coulda, woulda and truly each day is a new chance to get it right!
    Thanks as always dear Sandra – well done today!

    I realize I do not seize the moment nearly enough! I wish I had this "built-in reminder" to do it every single day. Thanks for this day's reminder, Sandra.I never make New Year's resolution, because I know I know I won't keep them, but this is something more than a resolution–this is a good old way of life that I think our grand parents knew instinctively!

    Helen Keller's life is such an inspiration to me due to mother's blindness. These are very wise quotes. Ever mindful of God's blessings and the beauty all around, I cherish each day. Thank you for a lovely post.

    Lovely to hear from you. You sound to love in a lovely part of the world.
    Yes, losing a partner suddenly like that must be so devastating. I had six months notice for losing my first husband to cancer twenty years ago – we had time to settle everything and say all that we wanted to say. He died peacefully and I couldn't be sad because it had all gone so comfortably for him.
    Then I met the farmer and we married a couple of years later and have had twenty happy years together.
    I am glad to hear that you have thrown yourself into all things to do with farming. We never know what lies just around the corner do we?
    Please call again.
