Memorial Day, 30 May 2011

31 May
~ Boy Scouts raising and saluting Old Glory ~

In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Lieutenant Colonel John McCraeIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Blessings ~ Men and Women of the US Military…THANK YOU FOR SERVING!

I still can't read this poem without crying. It is so touching. It is one of my favorites. Hope you had a peaceful Memorial Day.

    Hello Sandra and Dave:
As we have remarked elsewhere in relation to Memorial Day, the world owes so much to the generosity and sacrifices which your country has made in the name of freedom.

Here in Eastern Europe this is most keenly felt.

Amen – so many fine young people spent on battle fields – we shall not forget.

As a child I used to cry every time I heard or read this poem.

    Beautiful share Sandra.

    Have a beautiful week.
