“Secretariat: Out of the gate…and into history”

by Sandra Bennett

25 Oct
 ~ American Curly horses ~
“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
“Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage…”
 ~ Job 1-4; 19-24 ~

Mercy! Do yourself a favor, as a matter of fact, do the entire family a favor and go see Secretariat ASAP. Sure, you know how it ends. That great horse wins the 1973 Triple Crown becoming the first horse to win since Citation won in 1948. Heck, there have only been eleven horses and riders to do so since the Triple Crown began in 1919 and it’s been more than thirty years since Affirmed and Steve Cauthen won in 1978.

It’s a movie story about hope and love and believing in something larger than oneself. Penny Chenery, against the advice and will of just about everyone in her life, saved the family farm and, as a hand’s on owner, allowed Secretariat to do what was his God-given destiny: run and, she would add, win. It’s a joy to watch a horse, especially a running horse and to watch Secretariat on the big screen is to watch the awesome handwork of God Himself. Secretariat was foaled at The Meadow, then the Chenery family horse farm in Doswell, just north of Richmond and now the home of the Virginia State Fair.

Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about this movie. In a world gone crazy, then and now, it’s filled with hope, love, laughter and joy; it’s a wonderful “feel good” movie. I’ve never bought a DVD when first released but this will be the first, perhaps only, exception. Yep, it’s that good!

Blessings ~ hope ~ love ~ laughter ~ joy ~ Secretariat ~ live rejoicing every day…yes, every day! ~

Grace and Peace,
Sandra

Hi Peggy, you're welcome and I know you'll enjoy!

Hi Deborah Ann – you won't regret watching this movie; it's *that* good!

Hi Marydon – your husband is quite right but I'm still glad it's my view -smile-.

Hi Karen – I'm so glad I saw it, based on the recommendation of a friend who has already seen it twice. She plans on seeing it at least half dozen more times. I'm too cheap, I'll just buy the DVD.

Hi Kelle – movies are a LOT less expensive here; thank goodness! We even have senior day where we get in for $1. The down side is, ya gotta be old -grin-.

Hi Misha – we had to drive 60+ miles round trip so know what you mean. xoxo to you and J.

Hi Paula – GO, see it NOW! You'll love it!

I'm waiting to view it in the comfort of my own home and not have to pay $38 just to get thre of us in the door It's theft for what they charge now a days, ridiculous.

Anyway I did my senior year term paper on Secretariat(sp?) I loved learn about him, he was truly an amazing horse. I may stand corrected but I beleive he still holds the record for the measurement of the length of his stride, someone may have beaten it but I don't think so.
I'm looking forward to watching it :o)

G'eve sweet Sandra ~ Of all the movies out there, this one exemplifies love, faith, hope, strength & sustenance … of both the people involved with this horse & the horse itself. I have never enjoyed a movie so much as I did this … wellll, ok, GWTW, too.

    Awesome, Sandra … great review.

Hubby said the 'view from your window no one deserves', with a big chuckle. I so love looking at it & then the picture of the pasture with the horses is awesome.

Huge hugs coming your way, my special friend. Love you ~

    Have a BOO-TEA-FUL week!
