“Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you and you shall answer me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” ~ Job 38:1-7 ~
“Stone walls do not a prison make ‘Nor iron bars a cage; Minds innocent and quiet take that for an hermitage; If I have freedom in my love, And in my soul am free; Angels alone, that soar above, Enjoy such liberty.” ~ Richard Lovelace ~
“The angels all were singing out of tune, and hoarse with having little else to do, excepting to wind up the sun and moon, or curb a runaway young star or two.” ~ Lord Bryon ~
“Pride still is aiming at the bless’d abodes, Men would be angels, angels would be Gods. Aspiring to be God if angels fell, aspiring to be angels men rebel.” ~ Alexander Pope ~
“And yet, as angels in some brighter dreams call to the soul when man doth sleep, so some strange thought transcend our wonted themes, and into glory peep.” ~ Henry Vaughan ~
“Every visible thing in this world is put in the charge of an angel.” ~ St Augustine ~
“But men must know, that in this theatre of man’s life it is reserved only for God and angels to be lookers on.” ~ Francis Bacon ~
“It is in rugged crises, in unwearable endurance, and in aims which put sympathy out of the question, that the angel is shown.” ~ R W Emerson ~
“Angels and ministers of grace defend us.” ~ William Shakespeare ~
“Everything we call a trial, a sorrow or a duty; believe me, that angel’s hand is there.” ~ Fra Giovanni ~
“Millions of spiritual creatures walk the earth unseen, both when we wake and when we sleep.” ~ John Milton ~
“It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels.” ~ St. Augustine ~
Billy Graham on angels here.
Dorothy Sayers, How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? here.
“The angels don’t care anything about a railroad in Alaska. What do the angels care about political principals? What do they care about a forty story skyscraper or reclaiming the deserts of the west? What do they care about pictures, art, or science? The only thing they’re interested in is the salvation of man. If you want to make the bells of heaven ring, get down on your knees. Tell a sinner about Jesus Christ if you want to hear the heavenly bells. Nothing will swing open the prison doors and bring men out of sin like prayer. Nothing makes such joy in heaven as the salvation of a soul. The angels don’t care a rap about your wealth; they don’t care about your social position, they don’t care about your culture. It’s the salvation of sinners the angels care about.” ~ Billy Sunday ~
“Angels descending, bring from above, echoes of mercy, whispers of love.” ~ Fanny Crosby ~
“In the same way I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” ~ Luke 15:10 ~
Prayer ~ who doesn’t need prayer? It seems every time I talk with someone the subject of the signs and wonders of “last days” comes up. No one knows, save God, when He’ll send His son, Jesus Christ, to claim Him own but I know this: no one ever dies tomorrow, it’s always today. Today is the “last day” for someone; are you ready to meet God? “Absent in the body, present with the Lord” is for those who have accepted salvation in Christ. For those who have not, it is hell for eternity. Salvation is easy; one need only lay down pride and say, “Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God; the way, the truth, the life and I enter Heaven by your saving grace.” Please don’t delay; we’re all only one breath away from eternity.

I’ve had Dr. Graham’s book on Angels for a long time, a gift from our daughter, and felt like if anyone could make it clear, he could, inasmuch as any human could. All of these quotes were interesting. And two things kept surfacing in my head while reading them: an old Christmas song sung by Mario Lanza called Guardian Angels Around My Head–if my senior memory hasn’t betrayed me here. Never heard anyone else sing it and it’s hauntingly beautiful. My children loved it. And my youngest son in a children’s musical at church when he was little. He was a lamb. No angels in it that I can remember but the song they sang was something about the shepherd leaving the 90 and 9 sheep to go after the one that was lost. I guess that came back to me because of the angels rejoicing when one sinner repents.
I did try to understand Dorothy Sayer’s quote link because I devoured all her books years ago, still have most of them, but I really must try to read it again. Hmm.

If you can believe it, I’ve never read Rev Graham’s book on angels! One of those I’ve just never gotten around to but will look for it in thrift stores. Now it’s on my mind, I’m sure to run across it. I just found Mario Lanza “Guardian Angels Around My Head” on Youtube. It’s beautiful, what an incredible voice!
The Ninety and Nine hymn was on my blog a while back…one of my favorite hymns… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NbHZjlnWos
“You can’t find your place in a world that wasn’t meant for you.” is a new favorite – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueDWmRXIXdM and Dewena, it is **incredible**! Go watch it and let me know what you think.

So much good encouragement and warnings here. Thank you for sharing all these quotes together on this post. Everything will be stripped down to the truth of the gospel!
