Sabbath Keeping

by Sandra Bennett
Sabbath Keeping· TCF

1 Nov

“Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters,
or in things too high for me.
Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother:
my soul is even as a weaned child.
Let {me} hope in the Lord
from henceforth and for ever.”
~ Psalm 131 ~
“Dear God,
I pray your Holy Spirit will teach me
Your wisdom will guide me
and your love will move me.”

“It was the Lord who put into my mind that fact that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies. All who heard of my project rejected it with laughter, ridiculing me. There is no question that the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit because He comforted me with rays of marvelous inspiration from the Holy Scriptures.”
~ Christopher Columbus ~

“The Holy Spirit is not a blessing from God.
He is God.”
~ Colin Urquhart ~

“There is no better evangelist in the world than the
Holy Spirit.” ~ D. L. Moody ~

“A church in the land without the Spirit is rather a curse than a blessing. If you have not the Spirit of God, Christian worker, remember that you stand in somebody else’s way; you are a fruitless tree standing where a fruitful tree might grow.” ~ Charles Spurgeon ~

“God knows what each one of us is dealing with. He knows our pressures. He knows our conflicts. And He has made a provision for each and every one of them. That provision is Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit, indwelling us and empowering us to respond rightly.”
~ Kay Arthur ~

“To ignore, repress, or dismiss our feelings is to fail to listen to the stirrings of the Spirit within our emotional life. Jesus listened. In John’s Gospel we are told that Jesus was moved with the deepest emotions (11:33)… The gospel portrait of the beloved Child of Abba is that of a man exquisitely attuned to His emotions and uninhibited in expressing them. The Son of Man did not scorn or reject feelings as fickle and unreliable. They were sensitive antennae to which He listened carefully and through which He perceived the will of His Father for congruent speech and action.” ~ Brennan Manning ~

“If we rely on the Holy Spirit, we shall find that our prayers become more and more inarticulate; and when they are inarticulate, reverence grows deeper and deeper.” ~ Oswald Chambers ~

“It’s not the Holy Spirit and power;
It’s the Holy Spirit as power.”

“I used to tell young preachers, in order to preach you’ve got to have the power of God on your life. Now I tell them, in order to tie your shoes, you’ve got to have the power of God on your life.” ~ Paul Washer ~

“The Christian who neglects the Holy Spirit
is like a lamp that isn’t plugged in.”

“Put very simply, Satan’s power in the world is everywhere. Yet wherever men and women walk in the Spirit, sensitive to the anointing they have from God, that power of his just evaporates. There is a line drawn by God, a boundary where by virtue of his own very presence Satan’s writ does not run. Let God but occupy all the space himself, and what room is left for the evil one?” ~ Watchman Nee ~

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus
from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ
from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
~ Romans 8:11 ~

Another valuable Sabbath-Keeping. Wonderful quotes you found again through the power and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

    Important to say:

"The Holy Spirit is not a blessing from God.
    He is God."
    ~ Colin Urquhart ~

Thank you again, mystic Thistle Sandra!

    "I receive" when I read your Sabbath Keeping . . .
Holy Spirit sings within "you the Giver."
    Two words, "Jesus Listens" . . .

Thank you dear Sandra for another uplifting post.

    My favorites this week:

    He is God."

Hmm . . . I will have to consider that quote from Brennan Manning. I've tended to think of emotions as an unreliable guide. Or at least I think they should be tested in light of Scripture. But he makes an interesting point about how God uses emotions.
As always, thank you for the quotes and for Scripture.
    Blessings to you. xo Deborah
