Sabbath Keeping

by Sandra Bennett
Sabbath Keeping· TCF

“When you lie down,
you will not be afraid;
when you lie down,
your sleep will be sweet.”
~ Proverbs 3:24 ~

“Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” ~ Vince Lombardy ~
“Sleep makes each night a sabbath for the day. Sleep shuts tight the door of the soul and bids all intruders wait for a while, that the life within may enter its summer garden of ease. The toil-worn believer quietly sleeps, as does the weary child when it slumbers on its mother’s breast.” ~ Charles Spurgeon ~

“Early to bed and early to rise probably indicates unskilled labor.”
~ John Ciardi ~

“I love sleep. My life has a tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know?”
~ Ernest Hemingway ~
“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” ~ Dr. Seuss ~

“Sleep is my lover now,
my forgetting,
my opiate,
my oblivion.”
~ Audrey Niffenegger ~

“And if tonight my soul may find her peace in sleep, and sink in good oblivion, and in the morning wake like a new-opened flower then I have been dipped again in God, and new-created.”  ~ D. H. Lawrence ~

“To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and, by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. to die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub.”
~ Shakespeare ~

“No day is so bad it can’t be fixed with a nap.” ~ Carrie Snow ~

“Life is too short to sleep on low thread-count sheets.”
~ Leah Stussy ~

“Do this,
knowing the time,
that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep;
for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.
The night is almost gone, and the day is near.
therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
~ Romans 13: 11-12 ~

    We are always so grateful for your prayers. Jim's getting strong enough that I can go ahead and get the hernia operation. And I should be healed up before he has to go back on chemo.

    …for now salvation is nearer to us than we believe…

    This is the word for me today after missing my lovely cat and my lovely hen since three days. All the suffering creatures wait for salvation – Christ has done it! Our salvation is near!

    Thank you so much for wrinting this here and now, dear Thistle!
