Sabbath Keeping

by Sandra Bennett
Sabbath Keeping· TCF

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the Lord keep the city,
the watchman waketh in vain.”
~ Psalm 127:1 ~

“Ask for no guarantees, ask for no security, there never was such an animal. And if there were, it would be related to the great sloth which hangs upside down in a tree all day every day, sleeping its life away.” ~ Henry de Bracton ~
“Security…it’s simple the recognition that changes will take place and the knowledge that you’re willing to deal with whatever happens.” ~ Henry Browne ~
“Without a measureless and perpetual uncertainty, the drama of human life would be destroyed.” ~ Winston Churchill ~

“I don’t want expensive gifts; I don’t want to be bought.
I have everything I want.
I just want someone to be there for me,
to make me feel safe and secure.”
~ Princess of Wales, Diana ~

“There can be no security where there is fear.” ~ Felix Frankfurter ~
“If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking…is freedom.” ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower ~
“The ultimate security is your understanding of reality.” ~ H. Stanley Judd ~
“Our growing softness, our increasing lack of physical fitness is a menace to our security.” ~ John F. Kennedy ~
“The greatest security for Israel is to create new Egypt’s.” ~ Ronald Reagan ~
“I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.”  ~ Douglass MacArthur ~
“Distrust and caution are the parents of security.” ~ Benjamin Franklin ~
“The biggest mistake that you can make is to believe that you are working for somebody else. Job security is gone. The driving force of a career must come from the individual. Remember: Jobs are owned by the company, you own your career!”
~ Earl Nightingale ~

“Security is mostly a superstition.
It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
~ Helen Keller ~

“We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain search for absolute security.”
~ Dwight D. Eisenhower ~

“Security depends not so much upon how much you have
but on how much you are willing to do without.”
~ Joseph Wood Krutch ~

“Anyone who says that economic security is a human right, has been to much babied. While he babbles, other men are risking and losing their lives to protect him. They are fighting the sea, fighting the land, fighting disease and insects and weather and space and time, for him, while he chatters that all men have a right to security and that some pagan god — Society, The State, The Government, The Commune — must give it to them. Let the fighting men stop fighting this inhuman earth for one hour, and he will learn how much security there is.”  ~ Rose Wilder Lane ~
“There is no security on this earth, only opportunity.” ~ General Douglas MacArthur ~
“Yet one thing secures us what ever betide, the scriptures assures us the Lord will provide.”  ~ Sir Isaac Newton ~

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future,
nor any power,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
~ Romans 8:38-39 ~

If you’d like a name added to the prayer list, please let me know. Around the world, people are praying.

Gretchen, thank you and so glad you enjoy the quotes.

Dewena, tough love is good love.

    Gretchen, no, that's Daddy's homeplace.

Dori, it's Daddy's homeplace and I like praying while doing chores as well.

Kathy, God is our only security and if one doesn't have God, one has no security.

LindaSue, love that old song; it's a favorite.

made me think of "standing on the promises" – only one place is secure – eternally so. Thanks for excellent set of quotes – you are a Thesaurus until yourself!

I've bookmarked this post to share it on my Facebook page. So much is made of "security" in so many forms, but really, our security rests in God alone. Thank-you Sandra.

This verses from Romans 8, 38-39 I love so very much. Sometimes I pray it when I do my stable-work and weather is hard…

Thank you for this collection, dear Thistle!

I have to print this one out too. You have offered a perspective on this that I don't often see. A little tough love but needed.

This may be the best collection of quotes yet – you are serving a feast! I love that one about the sloth – hahahahaha
But really the best is the last, because the love of God is the one thing in which we are secure, glory to His matchless Name.
