Head’s up! Tomorrow night, December 2nd is the first full moon of this month. We’ll close out the year with December having another full moon, a blue moon, on the 30th and so called because it’s the second full moon of the month.
The way words and meanings evolve mean now the phrase, “once in a blue moon” has come to mean the second full moon of the month as well as “every now and again”. There’s a second, more ancient meaning and was recorded in early issues of the Maine Farmer’s Almanac. They say “the blue moon is the third full moon in a season that has four full moons.” That’s rather difficult to understand, I think, and has everything to do with the Christian Ecclesiastical Calendar. However, even after reading the page referenced, I’m still not sure how the church and a blue moon are in relationship. I’m still struggling to remember Easter is the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the Spring Equinox!
At any rate, I didn’t want you to miss this last blue moon. I’m a simple person and find things like this not only enormously interesting but greatly entertaining.
Re my eye injury – went back to the eye doc today and while eye is healing, it’s not healed and there are still cells that need to rebirth, renew, regrow.Thank you, each and everyone, so much for your prayers and well wishes, please keep them up! -smile- I’m still having tremendous difficult with focusing but, Thank God, there’s NO pain or infection…what a change and blessing. I go back to the eye doc next Wednesday -or sooner if I experience difficulties- and, hopefully, will be totally healed by then. So, your indulgence is greatly appreciated; due to fuzziness, etc. there’s sure to be a wee error or dozen. Please forgive me.

Thank-you for the info about blue moons. I was struck by the beauty of the big, round, bright moon over our place tonight and now I will look forward to a blue moon and maybe even look it up some more.
Ah, now, I want my blue moons to really be blue. 🙂

Now to the moon…love full moons. I have been enjoying the clear cold nights this week. The moon has been so bright that it lights up everything, the owls are calling to one another and to top it all off, I saw a falling star.

I am so glad your eye is healing. I woke up this morning with my right eye swollen shut and have a horrid stye! Ughhhhh! It hurts AND itches madly at the same time. The doctor said it will "resolve itself" in time. No fun, for sure.

What a wonderful photograph! I just came in from trying to take a picture of the moon as seen from my Philadelphia suburb. I don't know yet if it turned out. I'm glad you're not in pain and hope you have a speedy recovery.
